AGS Studio Policy
Lessons
Private Lessons are given weekly in60-minute lengths. Private lessons focus primarily on technique and repertoire as well as musicianship and creative skills.
Private lesson schedule: The private lessons for Anchor Guitar Studio are subject to change due to semester schedules.
Missed Lessons:
Student-initiated cancellation: If a scheduling conflict or illness occurs during the semester, which causes the need for a lesson cancellation, please be considerate and inform me as soon as possible. I reserve a spot in my schedule just for your child. If you need to cancel a lesson, I must be notified by telephone call or text message a minimum of 2 hours prior to the scheduled lesson time in order to qualify for a make-up lesson.
Teacher-initiated cancellation: If I need to cancel a lesson, you will be notified well in advance so that you can adjust your family schedule accordingly.
Studio Closures: The studio will close for Thanksgiving Break (TBA), Christmas Break (TBA), and Spring Break (TBA). The studio will remain open during all other school holidays and staff development days. If AISD CLOSES FOR BAD WEATHER, SO WILL MY STUDIO.
Practice
Regular home practice is essential for student success. Ideally, students should aim for at least 5 days of practice each week.
Short, daily practice sessions are more effective than one or two long sessions per week. The most important time for students to practice is right after their weekly lesson, to solidify what they have just learned. Research has shown that retention of new knowledge drops to 60% after just 24 hours. It’s not a good idea to wait until the end of the week, then “cram” practice right before a student’s next lesson!
Parental involvement in home practice is crucial for student success. Please help your student to establish and stick to a practice routine, and see that practice time is free of distractions. If you are the parent of an elementary-age student, please plan to sit with your child for at least a portion of their daily practice time.
Attendance
Students are expected to attend each scheduled week of the month. When you register for lessons, your timeslot is reserved for you for that day. Please keep in mind that make-ups for missed lessons are not guaranteed. No refunds will be given for missed lessons.
If in the event that your student needs to miss a lesson because of a conflict or illness, please contact me with as much advance notice as possible. Each family is responsible to check the website and contact me to reserve an available make-up time.
Any lessons missed by the instructor due to illness or emergency will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
Please be on time – lesson times cannot be extended for any students who arrive late. Students should be picked up promptly at the end of their lesson time.
Summer lessons are scheduled on a by-the-lesson basis. Students should expect to continue lessons on at least a part-time schedule through the summer to maintain the skills they develop through the school year. Students who do not enroll in summer lessons are not guaranteed a spot in the studio for the next year.
Equipment
All students must have a classical, acoustic, or electric guitar. The quality of your student’s home instruments plays a significant role in their potential for success.
